It took some blood, sweat and tears (no pun intended), but it was worth it.
Good evening folks. As you might have figured out from the title. The Mayan Gods of the Sky have completed their sacred ritual and have created the first Chapter of Jaguar Warrior.
It took some blood, sweat, tears, maize paste and human sacrifices (just kidding), but it was totally worth it and I couldn’t be more thankful for the help from NEF, Amalia Art and of course Lady JESSS. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to reach this achievement. It’s a small achievement and it might not look like much for an aspiring comic book writer like me with a “manual”. But if there is one thing I have learned in my life on this blue planet. Small achievements could often lead to great success. Inch by inch step by step.
And of course I would like to thank my family, friends and followers on social media for supporting me and NEF in our endevours. You folks are the best!!!
So where do you find the first chapter?
Good question. There are some instructions on the homepage and of course you have the right sidebar as a shortcut, but to give you guys an extra way to access.
I would like to present you the following link, because I am Mr. Nice Guy: https://thejaguarwarrior.com/chapters/
With this link you could access the chapters whenever you want and from every desktop and mobile device.
Feel free to share the chapter on places like Twat and Instagram. Take some inspiration if you want to as long as the copyright is respected.
But AJ. Why are there 69 views already? Did you crank up those numbers intentionally?
Of course not. The thing is. I am a perfectionist and stubborn. And I am still learning new things. I wanted the first chapter to be responsive to both mobile devices and desktops. And I had to tinker a few things to make sure everything worked according to plan.
What if I like this chapter so much that I want to buy it to support this aspiring creator?
There is a way. Tonight (CET for me) I will post the English version of the first chapter or issue on Gumroad for €4.00. I also have plans for a physical release for like €5.00, but first I need to order a proof copy.
This sounds like a lot for a digital indie project, but I have an explanation for this.
Why €4.00 for digital and €5.00 for a physical release?
The reason for this price is simple. I made a deal with NEF in our contract about royalties. And if I were to sell it for like €1.00. Gumroad would take like 30 cents during every transaction. I also have to think that if I want to send a copy to for example the USA I have to pay for shipping costs. And that would leave me, but especially NEF with peanuts. Nada. Less than nada. And since it was a collaborative effort just like every comic book project and I want him to be able to pay his bills and provide for himself and his family. And believe me. I learned to understand from my collaboration with NEF, but also Mike Jimmy from Life on Cora (Faeries and Ents) at DCC. Being an artist is hard work and dedication to the craft. IMHO even more demanding than writing.
This was a hard decision for me, because I didn’t want to charge like 5 or 9 bucks for like 22 pages of story. But I also didn’t want to underpay NEF for the amazing artwork.
€4.00 on Gumroad was the sweet spot and I am planning to combine the first 4 issues or chapters into the first volume 1 for like €20.00-€25.00 (It’s still too soon for KS and or Indiegogo). A Franco Belgian HC is like €15.00-€30.00 (sometimes more) depending on the amount of pages and the paper quality. But unlike the former big two. You have a higher chance to find a hidden gem.
My first blog post is complete. Thank god or the gods (whatever you believe in) it’s Friday.
I hope you enjoy this first chapter and feel free top post a comment or send a review through the contact form. I will post it under the review page so that I could learn from it.
Now go ahead and read the first chapter!
